Supplement Program for eligible staff employees

Based on input from the university’s Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, and other campus groups regarding work-related expenses including childcare and parking costs, Virginia Tech provides a supplement of $500 to full-time, benefits-eligible staff employees who make an annual salary of $35,500 or less. This taxable supplement can be used by employees to offset expenses, such as childcare or parking, and upon review, will be paid annually to eligible employees. The supplement was implemented in January 2020 and is expected to continue each following year after a review of the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

To address concerns related to childcare, parking, medical premiums, and other expenses, full-time, benefits-eligible staff employees with an annual salary equal to or less than $35,500 ($17.06 per hour) will begin receiving an annual, taxable pay supplement of $500. Implementation of the supplement will begin January 1, 2020. This supplement can be used to offset any employee expense.

Upon review, the supplement will be paid annually. Virginia Tech anticipates that the supplement will be paid early in the calendar year. 

The annual supplement will only be paid to full-time, benefits-eligible staff employees who make an annual salary equal to or less than $35,500. The continuation of the supplement and the salary level for eligibility will be reviewed annually. If the salary level to receive the supplement changes, we will communicate that information.
