New Faculty Retirement Plan Comparison

The Virginia Retirement System comparison guide may be used as a general reference to compare the VRS Hybrid Plan and the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). Virginia Tech is an opt-out agency and does not participate in ORPHE. 

Please note the following Virginia Tech-specific distinctions:

1. The plan offered is ORP, not ORPHE
2. Information on page 20 is not applicable. Our vendor options are Fidelity and TIAA.

3. To enroll, complete the VRS-65 form and submit it to Human Resources via the HR Dropbox.
4. You have 60 days from your hire date to elect your retirement plan; otherwise, you will be automatically enrolled in the VRS Hybrid Plan.
5. Retirement contributions are retroactive to your start date. If you submit your election later, a larger amount may be deducted from your paycheck to catch up.
