Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
As part of Virginia Tech’s health care benefit program, employees who are covered by the university’s health insurance have access to the Employee Assistance Program.
Employee Assistance Plans offer professional help if you or someone in your family is experiencing:
- Stress-related problems
- Emotional difficulties
- Alcohol or drug problems
- Family and relationship troubles
- Parenting concerns
- Conflicts at work or home
- Other personal concerns
- Financial Issues
- Legal Issues
Getting help is simple, convenient, and confidential. Employees may call the program directly at the number listed below or contact a Employee Relations or Hokie Wellness staff member. The Employee Assistance Program professionals will discuss the situation with the employee and provide a list of local providers. The first four visits are free.

Additional counseling assistance
Employees who need assistance or someone to talk to, can contact Hokie Wellness at 540-231-8878. Hokie Wellness can schedule a confidential, individual appointment with you or connect you to an EAP provider.
For employees who are not covered by the university's health care plan, the Employee Relations or Hokie Wellness teams are available to help employees and their families with referrals to local counselors. Some counselors charge fees based on income, making counseling more affordable.
