The Division of Human Resources hosts a variety of workshops and information sessions throughout the year to develop, educate and train employees.
New Hire Orientation
During orientation, new Virginia Tech employees will learn about what it means to work for Virginia Tech. They will also learn about Virginia Tech's extensive benefits package and the Human Resources Team will be on-hand to help employees navigate their new hire paperwork and decisions that come with any new job. Orientation is held throughout the year. New employees will receive an invitation to orientation.
Open Enrollment Informational Meetings
To assist employees in making informed decisions, the Human Resources hosts a series of informational meetings across campus during the open enrollment period. The annual open enrollment period is announced by the state every April.
Retirement Planning Sessions
To encourage employees to plan for their future a variety of retirement planning sessions are held each year to help employees of all ages. Topics range from plan overviews to how to be emotionally prepared for retirement. Employees can search for session through the university calendar (use keyword search “retirement”). In addition, retirement sessions will be communicate through the daily email when they are available.
Human Resources enables individuals and teams throughout the university to perform at peak effectiveness through professional, organizational, and diversity programs that are available to all employees. The programs support the development of VT-shaped employees and provide the tools and skills that are the foundation of purpose-driven engagement. In addition, we provide a variety of classes to help employees improve their Microsoft Office software skills.
