25.1 Purpose

25.2.1 Disaster Relief Leave
- Leave may be granted when a disaster has been officially declared by the President of the United States, or a State of Emergency has been declared by the Governor of any state.
- Employees shall be paid at their regular rates of pay for those regular work hours during which the employees are absent from work.
- Employees must provide written requests by public officials at the site of the disaster.
- Services provided by employees must be related to a specialized skill or training that the employees possess.
- Expenses related to employees providing disaster relief such as travel, food, lodging are not paid for by the Commonwealth.
- Total leave usage and required documentation must be monitored and maintained by the department.

25.3 Faculty
Faculty employees with specialized skills or training who are formally called to provide disaster relief services are provided with release time provided that it is approved in advance by their department head. Release time for faculty is not recorded in the leave reporting system. For audit purposes, records of the time-off should be noted in the faculty members' departmental personnel file. The record should include the duration of leave and written request.
