Hal's Corner

June 2008 Edition

Atlanta, Detroit, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, New York…At first blush, these cities don’t appear to have a great deal in common with Blacksburg.  Would it surprise you to learn we have large numbers of recent hires moving from these major cities to work at Virginia Tech?

As someone who moved from Atlanta to Blacksburg eleven weeks ago, it is no surprise to me.  If there is a better campus community – anywhere – than the Virginia Tech community, that would be the surprise!  Though these wonderful cities have much to offer, we are attracting growing numbers of applicants from major urban areas who appreciate the tremendous quality of life we offer here.

While Virginia Tech employees live and work in locations all over Virginia and beyond, let’s take a look at the reasons recently hired employees give about working at our primary location in Blacksburg:

  • Excellent public schools
  • An intellectually stimulating work environment
  • A gorgeous campus and beautiful area in which to live all year around
  • A real sense of community
  • An easy place to connect with people and make new friends
  • Great health care and retirement benefits
  • A vibrant arts scene
  • A commute as short as you want to make it

For those of you who already work here, you could add to this list.  For those of you looking for a great place to work, live, and learn, come join us at Virginia Tech!
